In sea catalogs Baltic Shipping Company and Central Advertising Agency MORFLOT USSR the ship name in an English transliteration is written as LGOV.

In Russian transliteration the word will be written L'GOV, but on a vessel is written LJGOV. L'GOV- the city in Kursk area Russia, in honor of it also is named the ship.
Flag USSR, home port Leningrad, Baltic Shipping Company (BSC).

Hi

The Lgov was one of 22 Finnish built cargo vessels, the Russians taking delivery of 16. She was delivered in 1961 by Wartsila, Abo, the last of the Russian built vessels. Her grt 8250 tons, LOA 139.40 m and her 6300 bhp Sulzer engine gave 14.5 knots of speed. Lloyds do not record her in the years preceeding the photo taken above, so her fate a mystery to me.

Another vessel carried a similar name - Ligovo , but she was one of the smaller, common mid sixties timber carriers of which the above is not.

Cheers

Brent

Ljgov was broken up at Naantali 09/10.1987.
Just 15 km from place where she was built.

Risto
