Description:

Collier Cliff Quay at her namesake power station, Ipswich, towards the end of her career. Perhaps the last trip to Ipswich? She had less than a year left and was broken up in Manchester in November 1983. The steam colliers were something special by this date. This view was only possible because the Orwell Bridge had just opened! (c) Keith Halton.

Cliff Quay delivered her first cargo to the power station berth in June 1950 and was a regular visitor to Ipswich until March 1983.I have fond memories of this fine old girl together with her five sister-ships.She was built as a coal=burning steamer but was converted to oil firing in 1968.Its a great shame that she wasn't preserved.
