I think her unusual appearance can at least partly be explained by the fact that she is a converted dry cargo ship.

They have just closed it in more as you can see from this earlier photo : http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=217535

Not sure why as it would have been much easier for the crew when mooring and unmooring instead of having to look out of the small hatches. Maybe to do with her trading areas when converted ? She could have possibly been running up the Baltic etc?
