Lifeboats probably not needed if delivered as dead ships under tow. But inverted would ensure better resale value for the Italian scrapyard. Good question, though, of when they were fitted.

LIBERTY SHIPS AT LA SPEZIA Extremely interesting photo! In the middle are ZEBULON B. VANCE and JARRETT M. HUDDLESTON (built as SAMUEL F.B.MORSE), Liberties converted 1943 into a US Army hospital ships. Both were converted again in 1945 for transport of war brides and children. On the right is THOMAS LA VALLEY, converted 1944 into US Army aircraft repair ship. On the left is one of these standard Liberties: WINFIELD S. STRATTON, JOHN W. FOSTER or W.S. JENNINGS. All were anchored at James River Reserve Fleet site prior to arriving at La Spezia. Brgds
