I did two weeks as Mate on this little beauty, in the summer of 1985.
Loaded nitro-glycerine at Great Oakley which we took to Drogheda in Eire, then bought a load of roadstone from Dean Quarry, Cornwall to Erith on the Thames. Having nipped over to Dunkirk to load steel plate, I had an unfortunate encounter with a knife wielding thief and ended up in hospital for a bit, while the skipper Dick Durrell had to sail short-handed back to the UK.
The shipowner at that time was Transorient Ltd of Gibraltar, which was owned by John Spencer and his sons from Strood on the Medway - who treated me very well while I got back on my feet.
Cheers,
Ed.
