On July 31st. 2011 I added this picture in the unknown category with the following remark: "On this picture, taken by Harry Stott in the late 60-ies, we see 2 tankers. Please refer to Rick's and Bent's remarks regading their identification. It's an interesting quest !". So as far as I'm concerned this picture was taken by Harry Stott, unless somebody else will come up with evidence to the contrary !!!

A little add to complete my friend Patalavaca
she was loaded with 28000 tons venezuelan crude oil when sank South of El Salvador 27-5-77 after her engine rapidly flooded her 35 officers and crew were all safely rescued by the norv M/V STAR TARO which landed them at Acapulco
Now i think the info are very complete.

Thanks to the ones who identified this tanker. I will change the title from Unknown to Longchamp. Also, I was advised by Jim Bartke that he is not the one who took that nice undated shot.

You are welcome Lucian.
The third ship, at anchor off the port is I believe, one of 5, distinctive French owned tankers by Société Française des Transports Pétroliers of Nantes, France.
Livery: Black funnel, grey hull with red boot topping.
Three Dutch built:
'Camargue' IMO 5058973
'Poitou' IMO 5280459
'Sologne' IMO 5333646
French built:
'Anjou' IMO 5782327
'Artois' IMO 5025847
The Dutch built ships can be found on this page by clicking on the links .
Future historians can decide which vessel it was.

Lucian, 'Caribbean Sea' remained a tanker throughout her life.
On 27 May 1977, during a loaded voyage with crude oil from Baja Grande, (Believed to be )Mexico to Tacoma, Washington, USA, the ship's engine room flooded and she sank off the Nicaraguan Coast in a position 11.34N, 89.51 W.
The vessel was a total loss. No crew were lost, all rescued.

So who really took this photograph?
Rene Beauchamp, Jim Bartke, Robert Smith or Harry Stott? The latter pair refer to http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1363366

Dear Bent, was "LONGCHAMP" being rebuilt from tanker into bulk carrier in 1970s, then sold to Hongkong Shipowner where renamed "CARIBBEAN SEA" and sand in 1977? Can you advise more information about "CARIBBEAN SEA"(ex."LONGCHAMP")? Thank you,
Lucian

The twin funnelled tanker is one of Compagnie Navale Des Pétroles (later Total Oil) ships.
Either:-
Altair IMO 5012797 (completed May 1959, Yard No. N17)
Polaire IMO 5280588 (completed July 1959, Yard No. O17)
or
Rigel IMO 5294864 (completed January 1960, Yard No. R18)
All built by Chantiers de L'Atlantique, Penhoet Loire yard, St. Nazaire, France.
Gross tonnages about 31,174 & dwt about 47,594.
My guess? 'Altair' a long-shot from the convoy board name.

Hallo Rene
I am quit sure that it is one of the Odense-built tanker: Floreal, Longchamp or Monceau. Could be Longchamp from November 1958... still looks fair in the painting.
The fourth tanker in the series PASSY was delivered in 1961 is out the question.
