What a wonderful shot of this old lady which seemed to last forever.

In 1966 I was a deckhand on the brand new Queen of Prince Rupert, under going trials and was covered in smuts when I was painting a black coat on the then white mainmast, motorships are in no way clean burning vessels! mrdot.

I recall being aboard the almost-new motorship Vistafjord (in 1977). I went out on deck in white jeans and a white t-shirt and within moments I looked as though I had escaped from the cast of "1,001 Dalmatians" as big black sotty smuts rained down on me.

The ship was a steamer. I remember that each morning, crewmembers were removing the black stuff that had fallen from the stacks during the night. In subsequent cruises on motorships, no such problems occured.

These three Matson liners of the early 1930's were very well built vessels! mrdot.
