Description:

Sydney Harbour, passing Opera House. 12 November 2014
Vessel at 33°51'18.18" S 151°12'55.51" E

A group of young Pacific Islanders calling themselves the Climate Warriors have arrived in Australia to mount a protest against the Australian coal industry and call for action on climate change.

Countries that are part of the campaign include: Papua New Guinea, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands, Federated Sates of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Palau, Tuvalu, Nauru, Kiribati and Fiji.

Small island developing countries are among the most vulnerable to climate change.

Comment from Werner added:
All four voyaging canoes were built in Auckland at the Salthouse yard at Greenhithe. The vakas are based on a traditional Tahitian design but modern boatbuilding techniques are combined with established craftsmanship. The 13 tonne vessels are 22m long and have up to 16 crew.

This is the UTO NI YALO:
http://pacificvoyagers.org/the-gifting-of-vaka-moana-uto-ni-yalo/

Throughout the Polynesian people there has been a revival of their traditional ocean voyages in double hulled sailing canoes. For navigating they also use the almost forgotten ways of using any kinds of technical instruments. Several years ago I had the great pleasure of visiting the Vaka Moana exhibition in Auckland.

Regards, Werner
