Hi Chris,

Yes I have had many a good shot taken fro the deck of another ship. The Harwich to Hook Ferry is another good platform due to the size of the vessel.
Around my home port there is some opportunity to gain high but the ships are then a long way off, about a mile or so. As seen in this photo

A higher viewpoint always gives to my idea a better picture! (most of the time)!, it also makes me have to look twice to recognize the landscape which I am otherwise very familiar with (IJmuiden/Amsterdam port area)
