I remeber when she came down to Hobart on charter to the Project Asia Service, she was a very quiet ship, even when she departed she hardly made a sound apart from the whinches and the prop in the water (she was almost empty) she came to Hobart to load Zinc Ingots to take to Hong Kong.

Just a question, did she have a identical sister ship names Gulf Current?

Yes, it was her sistership, but Gulf Current and California Current were from different Croatian company, Uljanik Plovidba - Pula. Humboldt Current and Rossel Current were owned by Slobodna Plovidba Šibenik, they were some years more on charter to Project Asia Service than other two vessels. As you can see, Humboldt Current still sails under this name, together with Rossel Current. Other two ships are in service, too, but as Atlantic Express and Suez Express.

Hello Milko,

Do you know her registered owner as SIMO MATAVULJ ? As TORM S.P. it was S.P. Shipping Co. Ltd., Kingstown.

One of the six sisterships originally built for Greeks at Uljanik, delivered as Konkar Thetis ( 1981 - 1987 ). In fleet of Slobodna from 1987 to 1998, first as Simo Matavulj, then ( 1992 - 1993 ) Torm S.P. After that she became Humboldt Current; name is still in use for new owners, although eight years passed by from the time of Slobodna Plovidba sad end.

Pozdrav-Milko

Hello Milko,

One question to her ownership:

Was Slobodna Plovidba her registered owner from 1987-1991 and which port of registry?

As TORM S.P. she was registered for S.P. Shipping Co. Ltd., Kingstown with managers as Slobodna, isn`t it ?

After 1998 she was owned by Duster Nav. managed by Fairmont Shipping (Canada) Ltd., Vancouver. Do you agree ?

Many thanks
Jochen
