SANDANGER left San Diego July 2,1965 in tow for Kaohsiung, Taiwan where demolition began in August.

On May 18. 1964 on her voyage from Long Beach to Le Havre with general cargo and 11 passengers she transmitted signals of distress from a position 450 nm south of Long Beach, due to a heavy fire outbreak in her midship accomodations. The North German Lloyd vessel Bodenstein responded and managed to pick up 45 persons from the Sandanger's lifeboats. The Sandanger's Captain, two stewardesses, seven passengers and one crew member did not survive the fire. On May 24. the tug Sea Eagle started to tow her to Coronado CA. She was set aground on May 27. in order to unload her cargo of silver and aluminum bars. On July 02. the wreck was towed to San Diego and the bunker fuel and remaining cargo was removed from the wreck. Later the same year the wreck was sold to breakers for USD 47.000.
