A shame to see Lisboa go but a great length of time when she ruled the waves. Hope all goes well for the 3 remaining ships in the Portuscale Cruises fleet.Beautiful photos as always Luis.
Best Regards,
Damien

She was very successful as a cruise ship for close to 40 years. There was a serious effort to repair her in 2013-14, and a lot of money was spent, but the more repairs and areas inspected the more extra repairs were needed, she really is very old and the steelused in Greece in 1974-76 was no match for the original quality of the hull. In the end about twice the money she has made now with the sale to breakers was spent before it was decided to give up on her. All steel renewal on the hull and tanks, etc was done, the hull could go on for another ten years.

So sad but we must remember that she has had a long and successful life.

Sad to see LISBOA go, another chapter of history passes. Even though she's unrecognisable, she's still the old PORT MELBOURNE underneath (complete with twin Doxfords) and as such one of the very last (if not the last) of the Aus/NZ coast home boats left.

The LISBOA is sold for scrap and sails from Lisbon next week to Aliaga, but so far the PORTO is looking for a charter
