Yes, Bob, but I suspect still not cheap - depends also how much of the shaft was replaced. I assume that she didn't lose her propeller, or she had a spare. No point is fitting a knackered shaft if they ended up having arrange a tow in mid-voyage.

The PSC inspection at Bayside is succinct:
"Propulsion & aux. - Propulsion main engine - Missing"

Interesting that the cost of buying and fitting a replacement shaft (from stock?), was presumably cheaper that a tow to Alang.

Broke propeller shaft on a voyage from Alaska to Bayside, New Brunswick, Canada with cargo of frozen fish. Towed from Panama to Bayside to discharge cargo. Towed to Halifax, N.S., where it was dry-docked and a replacement shaft fitted. 27 August 2009 departed Halifax under own power for the scrapyard at Alang, India.
