Very nice picture Gerolf, brings back happy memories of the two "Bird" class ships I served on, British Cormorant and British Swift.
Ultimately BP Tanker Co. built 14 of this class, the first 7 were delivered in 1959/60 and they were followed by a further 7 delivered in 1962. British Osprey came from the second batch of orders and was built by Harland & Wolff Ltd.Glasgow, (Yard No.1605G), completed 12.01.1962. She was a "products" tanker of 16,055dwt, loa 525'9". Powered by a 6 cylinder 2 stroke B&W 6-75VTBF-150/50 type oil engine manufactured by the shipbuilder. Geared to a single shaft, 8,600 bhp, service speed 15 knots. Sold in 1977 to Pacific Tanker Transport Inc. Liberia and renamed ORIENTAL PEACE.24.7.82 laid up at Singapore. 1983 renamed ALLOCEAN No.2 November 1983 arrived Kaohsiung for demolition. Your photgraph shows her in BP Tankers revised colour scheme which was introduced in 1969 and lasted until 1988.
Regards,
Alastair
