Description:

BALTICA, the former BALLYMORE, is seen departing the locks at Kiel-Holtenau on 11th October 1975 bound for Gdansk during her first voyage after being handed over to her new owners at Belfast.

BALTICA was owned by M.S.Kollakis and managed from London by the newly created Meridian Shipping Enterprises Co Ltd.

She had been built at Goole in 1950 as BEEDING for Stephenson Clarke Ltd and lengthened in 1965.

In 1970 she had been purchased by John Kelly Ltd. of Belfast who renamed her BALLYMORE.

On 17th January 1977, while on a ballast voyage from La Spezia to Barcelona, the BALTICA struck an unidentified object, sprang a leak, developed a heavy list and was abandoned by her crew.

Taken in tow, she was beached two days later and eventually towed to Toulon for breaking which commenced on 22nd September 1978
