Description:

Maersk (E class)13000+ TEU? This photo was taken near the Lindoe Shipyard,Odense, Denmark at 1910 hrs sunday 14th may 2006

Looks like this giant got about 8 bayes behind the accomodation, this must be one of the worlds longest proppeller shafts, guess about 120 meters?

Also notice the bridgewings. The wings seams to be somewhat wider than the last vessel. I am guessing in excess of 55 meters abeam. Length? Somewhere close to 400 meters :-o

Looking forward to see her leave the yard in the beginning of july.

This is kanda from JAPAN.
I supporse this ship is TWIN-SCREW TWIN-ENGINE type. In the case of this type, engine room must be arranged closer to midship to accomodate 2 engines tranversely.

I would like to get permission for the publishing this photo in our non-commercial news letter for ship-lovers in Japan.

Only one 9,5m dia propeller for propulsion. Driven by a 14-cyl Sulzer.

Placing the engine room midships, aswell as accomodation will allow higher stacking of containers on deck without conflict with IMO sight line (requirements to minimise blind spot sectors around vessel for navigator).

Impressive Picture. This ship really will be of an unprecedented size.

It will be interesting to see if the ports it serves have any problems accomodating its size and the volume of containers it will be able to carry.

My Goodness, she does look massive. I am excited to wait for her to sail in July and see the first pictures from our danish spotters.
Yes, the shaft must be impressive. Imagine the 'little' walk from the engine room to the end of the shaft. Also, I cannot help but notice that the accomodation looks more amidships than on previous S class vessels. Maybe an optical illusion? Looks a bit like the new Maersk Boston which is slightly ugly.

Yes it looks like the Maersk Boston and L203 got the accomodation closer to midships than we normally see.

Note that Maersk Boston only seems to have 7 decks including bridge and upper deck where the L203 seems to have about 11-12 decks,upper deck and bridge deck included.

Also note that i was a bit fast stating there was 8 bayes astern of accomodation. Actually I now see alt least 9 bays :-o

and by the way... looks like the holds are deeper on this one than on L202. Must be room for at least an ekstra tier below deck.
