Description:

Arriving Rotterdam 30/4/1969

Built by NDSM, Amsterdam. Launched 15-4-1944 and towed to Rheinstahl-Nordseewerke, Emden, Germany for completion. Seized by British when WW2 ended. Handed over to Dutch owners and named NIJMEGEN. Entered service 1947. Sold to DDG ''Hansa'', Bremen 17-5-1950. Converted steam-to-diesel by AG “Weser”, Bremen in 1961. Served with “Hansa” until scrapped at Gadani Beach in 1975

GREIFFENFELS was part of the so called "Hansa-Bauprogramm" of Hansa Type C (9.000 tdw) in WW II. The ships had a so called "Vorbau-Werft" (foreign pre-fabrication-shipyard, mostly dutch, belgian and french origin)) with completion on german shipyards. From the idea a kind of Liberty-ships, but only of small quantity. Regards Peter

The funnel colours were also magnificent, we swapped our Blue Star on the Southland Star for these funnel markings, during a voyage charter. They were equally impressive!
