OK, I have now continued search especially in russian websites, using russian search engine www.yandex.ru and it revealed many details. I have taken one link and put it through translator. It is this ship. It is not the pipelayer, not just because the pipelayer does look MUCH DIFFERENT but also - this ship was seen in Baltic Sea. This must also be recognized by admin, so I changed it back to category Auxiliaries and Military. Thanks to "asnyk" who from beginning on provided perfect info.

Here is the translated text and link - ALSO NOTE THE DRAWING:

Project History

After the war, amphibious ships for the Navy were built not only on special projects, but also by the conversion of cargo ships of the Ministry of Merchant Marine. So, in 1956, by the decision of the Navy CDB-50 has drafted a cargo ship conversion pr.568 in the average landing ship project 572. The main designer was E.S.Tolotsky, mostly watching from the Navy - D.P.Volodchenko.

In appearance KFOR pr.572 much like a normal cargo ship, on its military purpose only resembled anti-aircraft machine guns. He could take the cargo hold five medium tanks or four heavy tank or infantry troops in the amount of 235 people with ammunition and attached equipment and plant them on the equipped and unequipped coast without landing craft. To do this, in the bow of the ship were provided double-leaf gates and short lowerable similar. Loading and unloading of cargo was carried by six 2.5-ton crane booms. To accommodate the personnel of troops in KFOR side compartments were equipped with Kubrick hammock. In order to keep the vehicle from deploying a lag to the bank when landing and for departing from the coast the ship was equipped with a special stern anchor device. Trim at landing regulated ballast system. For self-defense was provided a 57-mm gun mount ZIF-31B (in the nose) and two 25-mm automatic 2M-3 (add-on) or 3 twin 37 mm Installation-11M. Displacement of the ship was as follows: standard - 1400 m, total - 2030 m.

Main propulsion KFOR had two-shaft, diesel (two engines 8DR), whose power is 1600 hp It provided a ship full speed to 12.2 knot cruising range was 2,000 miles, and autonomy - 15 days (with landing - 2 days.).

Construction Program. Pr.572 lead ship - "Irgiz" - was built in 1957 at a shipyard in the village of Oktyabrsky Mykolaiv region. A small series of eight ships were built there in the years 1957-59, of which for the Soviet Navy was built only 3 of the ship, and the rest - for the MFF.

Status for 2007 Three KFOR pr.572 - "Irgiz", "Beer" and "Vologda" - to nekotorgo time served in the Navy as a landing craft, but in the 1970's. When added to the fleet of new generation ships, they were converted into ordinary transports. Nasal gates were thus tightly welded, capacity was 1000 tons of sludge increased to 4.4 m. Two of them are equipped with 10-ton crane, after which they served as transports weapons. Cruising range vehicles increased to 3,000 miles at a speed of 10 knots.

In the mid-1990s. These transports were still part of the auxiliary ships of the Navy.

@Denis. Well, the confusion is going further. Vessel IRGIZ built in 1984 by Sava Shipyard was mentioned in now deleted PHa's post. I just pointed out that she is an Azerbaijan supply vessel sailing on the Caspian Sea

Pha Peter, Iam confused because from the link I provided in the description, the ship is built in Nikolaev shipyard and that is a much different one from Soviet Union. Plus, year of built 1958. Or wrong?

Yes, it is a medium seagoing dry-cargo transport project 572 (NATO: MS-6), a total of 7 vessels built. Irgiz built 1958 in shipyard Zhovtnevoye, yard no.872. Displacement 1.100 tons standard, 1.915 full. Serving in Baltic Sea Fleet, formerly at the Black Sea Fleet.

See the forum:

Middle Sea dry cargo transport "Irgiz" this year celebrated the 57th anniversary of the raising of the flag of the Navy. How many miles astern of the vessel there for his long life, even a rough estimate but it is impossible to say that a few turns around the Earth "Irgiz" did - that's for sure.

It is noteworthy that the ship built in 1958 and still is in good technical form, being one of the most popular Baltic transports, ready at any moment to go to sea. At present, it is mainly used to transport military cargo between the ports of the Baltic Sea. And between flights regularly carries naval service to provide naval combat training, goes to the "closing" of the area and firing successfully performs various housekeeping tasks.
