A.S. GLOSSBRENNER, MANITOULIN and HMCS BONAVENTURE - May 1966 - This aerial photograph was taken looking down at the Davie shipyard at Lauzon, Quebec as A.S. GLOSSBRENNER and MANITOULIN were being completed. BONAVENTURE had arrived in April of 1966 for a major mid-life refit which kept her at the yard until September of 1967.
A.S. GLOSSBRENNER remains in service today as ALGOSTEEL, MANITOULIN was retired in 2000 and arrived at Aliaga, Turkey on 23 July for scrapping. HMCS BONAVENTURE was built in Belfast, Ireland beginning in November 1943. She was launched in February of 1945 as HMS POWERFUL however World War II ended prior to her completion and construction was suspended. She was purchased by the Royal Canadian Navy in April 1952, completed and commissioned in January 1957 as HMCS BONAVENTURE.. She was decommissioned on 3 July 1970 and scrapped in Taiwan in 1971.
