Description:
KADUNA was photographed passing Portishead on 2nd November 1965, exactly fifty years ago today, inbound for Avonmouth at the end of a voyage from West Africa. She had been built by Lithgows at Port Glasgow in 1956 for the British & Burmese S.N. Company, formed in 1874 by P.Henderson, and had only recently been transferred within the Ocean Steamship Group to Elder Dempster following its acquisition of Henderson Line.
KADUNA, along with sistership KUMBA, was sold in 1973 to Regent Navigation Corporation, a company linked with Maldives Shipping, and renamed REGENT RELIANCE as which she was beached near Karachi, at Gadani Beach, on 22nd April 1978 to be broken up.
This photograph, together with an extended caption, is included in my book "Bristol Port and Channel Nostalgia" published by Coastal Shipping of Portishead.
