Hello Mr. Mlacic,

Thank you for your great photo. I am glad to see that this old lady is still on duty.

When I was a small boy and with my parents on vacation in beautiful Croatia, we often used this ferry. It must have been in the late 1980s. I remember that I always could be found on the bridge of this vessel.

Also I was impressed about the handwork which needed to be done in the engines room where the engineer always had to control the engines as there was no remote control but machine telegraphs. Do you know if this is still the case?

Kind regards,

Roland.

Thank you for your comment and this is a touchy story, it reminds me of my travels with old Jadrolinija's steamers in late 50's up to mid 60's. As far as I know no modernatizations have been performed on her engine room, so it must be the same. And just for the record, my best childhood friend in Dubrovnik was Roland Dikenshajt - folksdeutcher (your namesake, what a coincidence)

Best regards

Vedran

Hello Vedran,

Thank you for your quick response. I am impressed that it is still possible to see the old and reliable technology working. I hope it will be up and running for another long time.

Thanks also for sharing your thoughts concerning your friend in Dubrovnik. It is long ago since I was in Dubrovnik (so around 1985). But I remember a beautiful medieval town and an interesting well. I hope I can visit this culture centre again, soon.

Kind regards from Germany,

Roland.
