The ships of this line are the only connection between the isle and the mainland (exept planes). Both ports lack cargo handling equipment. So i think the idea was back in 1966, a time when heavy truck-mounted cranes were not as easy available as today, that the ship should be able to self-load and self-unload heavy equipment as needed for construction sites for example.

Interesting picture. Is she made for self-loading heavy cargo?

This ship carries supplys to the isle Baltrum off the german north sea coast and it can carry up to 25 passengers in summer and 12 in winter. In the winter time when there fewer tourist, this passenger capacity often is sufficient.
