This was quite a job to carry out the repair with the ship in the water. Trim the ship by the stern using all ballast available, we even had to lower the anchor to help the trim. The shell plate in this area is extremely thick and to shape it to fit the bulb was difficult. Working using templates they did an excellent job. Thanks for commenting!

Why did they not construct the bulb ashore in a welding/plate shop and then weld it complete onto the bow.Ashore the welds would have been done better and less time consuming as it would eliminate most of the overhead welds by turning the bulb on its axis.All said and done this is a very beautiful award winning photo especially if it is in the Industrial photo category. Best regards.

Health & Safety, welding in confined spaces,standing on single scaffolding plank ,taken his helmet off etc etc....!!

I do no not envy the guy who had to weld the shell plates to the internal structure.
