I sailed on her in as-built condition as the 'Viking Venturer' and she was functionally elegant and purposeful. I hear and understand the arguments in favour of rebuilding but, certainly from an aesthetic perspective, it transformed a handsome ship into ugly building-blocks on top of a hull.

Of course as original she looked MUCH better! Here she's just a pile of whatever. Interesting how while she has those sponsons added, the width at the middle still gets narrow in order to easily lower the lifeboat, as I see.

I agree with Mr. dot. It's just down right ugly.

Mr DOT: The b***ering around you crudely refer to was in fact a fascinating engineering feat, whereby the entire superstructure was lifted off the hull by floating cranes and then, later, lowered atop a new, upper car-deck that had been built on the hull. The result I agree did not make for a prettier ship but it did make for a more efficient one.
