The Valour-class frigate SAS Spioenkop (F147) and the Hecla-class hydrographic survey vessel SAS Protea (A324) docked at Simon's Town Naval Base.

SAS Spioenkop recently returned from a ten-week deployment where she represented South Africa at the Indian International Fleet Review and in Exercise IBSAMAR V. IBSAMAR is a bi-annual exercise between the South African, Indian and Brazilian navies. The voyage also included stops in Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Madagascar.

SAS Protea is the world's only Hecla-class vessel still in service. She is due for replacement in the next few years.
