That's true Phil, even Maersk has resumed sending ships to Alang. I've seen some pictures of the "green" sites at Alang on the Ship Breaking Facebook group. These sites do seem to look slightly better than the regular breaking sites at Alang, but I am not an expert on that.

Thanks for info Phil. I wonder how looks green recycling in the Indian edition.

Sold direct for 'green' recycling in Alang. There are now several 'green' Alang ship recyclers meeting Hong Kong convention rules.

It costs. I suspect that ACL sold her for "further service" to another company, which will send her direct to Alang(as I wrote in description ACL logo was painted).

They should send her (in parts) to Bendt at Grenaa, who scraps everything in an environmentally-friendly matter! :D

Great historic shot, btw!

Bob: My guess is because that they send it to ALANG, not scrapping her.
Or sending her to a more enviromentally friendly scrapyard.

@rd77: Why on earth should ACL deserve criticism for the scrapping of 32-year-old ships?

I'm surprised that a high-profile company like ACL does not appear to be getting any criticism about sending these ships to Alang...

Thanks. I agree it`s a sad news but Atlantic Compass had a beautiful carer - 32 years on Atlantic sea routes, this unprecedented view especially in these times.
Best regards

With ships less than half her age going to the breakers, I'd say she had a great career...

Great photo, thanks for sharing!

Cheers

Sad but a great long career. I remember well watching sister Atlantic Conveyor being launched from Swan Hunters Wallsend in 1985.

Ah, sad sight (but very nice photo)
