Description:

10,484 grt; 12,968 dwt; part refrigerated.
Operator: Moore McCormack Lines Inc, New York; Flag: USA.
Built 1964 by Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp, Pascagoula, Mississippi, USA.
Like nearly all US-flag ships at that time, MORMACLYNX was steam-turbine driven. In this case, two GE turbines developed 19,000shp, to give a speed of 24 knots.
Moore McCormack failed to meet the challenge of the new container age and withdrew from the Europe route in 1970. The company eventually closed in 1982, and MOMACLYNX was sold to US Lines as AMERICAN RESERVIST. In 1992 she took the name CORPUS CHRISTI until 1997, when she went to breakers at Alang, India.

Amazing that the owners couldn't or wouldn't see the writing on the wall and make the shift to large pure-container carriers sooner. We gave it all away...

Thanks, Allan.
Just a pity the sun didn't shine that morning on the Maassluis-Rozenburg ferry
