@ Matty,,those grabs easy weigh 2-6 tons,,depending how much they can make per lift and as Maxi mentioned they are secured. If you look up my ship, UBC Tarragona you will see fwd 3 craddles like boxes, we lower the grabs into them and they sit on wood brackets and in a tight fit, no need to lash them enymore beside that, but those on deck like these,,if not lashed and bad weather they can damage ships so far as they experience water ingress and the consequences of that is widely known I assume :-)

Hello Matty. How are you. Thanks for passing by.
All the grabs for load/ discharge are secure to deck with 4 turnbuckle, 2 fore amd 2 aft of the gramp. Is difficult to see in this photo. But if you zoom in the one view from the aft it can be seen.
But imagine on with that thing only resting on deck with the ship in bad weather. in the best case it end in the bottom of the sea jaja.

Hello ted. How are you? No one miss Rio De La Plata jaja. You have to see now the mess is here. There´s a dredge, NICCOLO MACHIAVELLI, working on the Emilio Mitre Channel, and only opens on High water. So, when she opens, you croos in One hour with about 10 bulkers on 10.6 mts in a 100 mts wide channel. About one cross per 5 minutes

Hello Matty, I cannot answer this one, please ask Ted.

Ahh, I understand now. Although on closer inspection there doesn't appear to be any cradle of sorts visible. I suppose each bucket weighs about 1/4 of a ton, maybe?

One must assume that they are secured. Can you imagine the damage that these heavy things could make to the bulwarks and to the hatch coamings if allowed to dance in a beam sea?
