The 1937 Bremen built, "New York Greek" owned CAPTAIN LEONIDAS, is seen passing Portishead outbound for Avonmouth in ballast for Emden to load her next cargo for Chicago. The photograph was taken on the evening tide of 18th August 1966, so exactly fifty years ago tomorrow.

CAPTAIN LEONIDAS was wrecked in the Patagonian Channel, Chile, on 7.4.68 [Santos-Valparaiso] - it is believed that the wreck remains more or less intact
