The ATALANTA (32,000 dwt blt Saiki Japan 2001)must be one of the most expensive acquisitions over the last 20-30 years. She was bought by Voyazides family (Alexandria Shipping, Athens, Greece) from Oldendorff at the peak of the dry bulk market boom in July 2008, at $52 m (when vessel was 7 year old).

@ Husni,, oversupply of 50-55000 ton segment size bulkers, mainly pushed out by the new huge quantities which are now builded and still coming. They can operate much cheaper then a handysize based on tonnage/expense ratio.
