There are similar marks above the waterline to indicate the the positions of bulkheads as strongpoints were tugs can push. The paintwork on the upermost marks is not so well preserved as those on the boot-topping.

Ian, but why put these marks below the waterline when the ship is loaded?

Ricardo, The hexagon shapes you are asking about on the hull, they could be for where the tugs are postioned for pushing up when berthing or unberthing.
