George N is a lot bigger than the LPG tankers usually seen around here. She came all the way from Aruba in the Caribbean loaded with LPG but has been anchored outside the port for two weeks now.

@rd77,, it is not that they would not do that. 95% of ports world wide one does not get a permit to paint or only for substantial amounts of money, in some ports a enviromental officer comes to the ship, checks everything and he costs a cool 300-400 $ or more if one applies for a permit. Enviromental regulations under MARPOL and extended ones nationally brings any Captain nowadays in the position of being fined, sued or even imprisioned with following job loss and unemployment. Of cours the economic times we are in do nor help much either as money is tight.
