General cargo ship built at the Burmaister & Wain Shipyard in Copenhagen for the Danish shipowner Nanneborg. The launching (without name) took place on December 16, 1943. Completion of construction - May 1945. With a disassembled engine, immobilized in the Copenhagen shipyard, it was taken over by the shipowner after the end of the war. After correcting the deficiencies, it entered service as DANSBORG on September 9, 1945. In March 1951, it was purchased by CENTROMOR for PLO (Polish Ocean Lines). Taken over by a new shipowner in Copenhagen (April 1951), she changed her name to POKOJ. A few days later, it arrived at its new home port (GDYNIA) to pick up cargo for the People's Republic of China. It entered service under CHIPOLBROK charter and began service to PRC ports. In July 1954, it was shelled near Hainan Island by American planes. It is worth adding that at that time, two Polish ships hijacked by the Taiwanese navy were in Taiwan's ports. These ships were named: PRACA (tanker) and PRESIDENT GOTTWALD (general cargo ship). Both belonged to the PLO. In m/s PRESIDENT GOTTWALD the motorcyclist was my father. He returned to Poland in the fall of 1955. The ships did not return, they stayed in Taiwan... In October 1965, POKOJ was sold to COSCO.
Name changed to SONG JIANG and later to HONG QI 135. Scrapping in China - 1991. What is interesting to me is the fact that in 1961 or 1962, on m/s POKÓJ, members of my family took part in the same very long cruise from Gdynia to Shanghai.
His grandfather was a steward, his father was a mechanic, and his uncle was an older sailor. During this journey, the ship hit an underwater rock and was damaged. A makeshift repair made it possible to reach China, where shipyard repairs were carried out...
