Description:

BP Tanker, (Clyde Tanker Co. to be accurate), Clyde Pioneer discharging motor spirit at Santander, Northern Spain, on the 30th January 1965. The Red Ensign is flying at half mast in acknowledgement of the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill which took place in London on that day.The ship was built by the Blythswood Shipbuilding Company of Glasgow and launched on 24.4.1951. Origionally named British Pioneer she was re-named when she was tranferred to the BP Clyde Tanker Co. in 1958. She was 12,390 deadweight tons and was powered by a 6 cylinder B&W diesel engine developing 3,520 bhp geared to a single shaft.
I spent 13 months on her and stood by while she was stripped of anything useful before being towed to scrap. Great ship, great crew, great trip!

Hi, I'm looking to make contact with crew onboard the Clyde Pioneer between 30 March 1959 and 22 December 1959 on behalf of a friend who was crew at this time. Please email [email protected] with any info.
Thanks
