Thanks David but this is the IMO of a 1971 built general cargo ship, the Spirit was built in 1944.

Ha! I see you've got the information you want... Their website has a lot of ship history on there somewhere, I think. Anyways I used to be her bosun and lived on her for about 5 months. She is a great old ship built in Texas in 1945 for the US Maritime comission as a Knot Class, R1-M-AV-1 Refrigerated Cargo ship. Post war she was sold and used by the Alaska Steamship Lines until about 1957, then laid up in Pugeot Sound, Washington State until about 1985 when she was given to Friendships Unlimited (A US based non-profit, see http://www.friendships.org )and reactivated to carry food, clothes etc. to people in War zones, Natural Disasters and 3rd world countries. It's a great ministry, I had a lot of fun serving with them as a volunteer.
