I was on her my 1st trip and joined in Botany Bay and we travelled to various ports in Far-East and Persian Gulf and South Africa--John Newbold was Captain on his last trip and we hit the back-end of 3 typhoons(Rita ,Susan and Tess) on the way from Sydney to Balikpappan in Borneo in June/July 1972.
I rejoined 3 years later in Las Palmas
She was broken up in Inverkeithing in Scotland in around about 1976/77 I think
A wonderful vessel !!

Great photograph Arjan, so clear and well composed. THAMESFIELD was built in 1959 by Hawthorn Leslie Ltd., Newcastle for Hunting (Eden)Tankers Ltd. also of Newcastle. 33,880DWT, 659.83' LOA, 84.58' Breadth, summer draught 35.96'. Steam Turbines geared to a single shaft developing 13,000SHP at 105 rpm which gave her a service speed of 15.75 knots. Engines by builder. Tank layout 10 centre and 20 wing with a single pump room housing 3 main cargo pumps and a separate stripping system. Max. discharge rate 4,800 t.w/hr. Butterworth tank cleaning system.
Thanks for posting, very nostalgic!
Regards,
Alastair
