Cere Hellenic was owned by late George P Livanos and the house flag as was appearing on the funner was three white stripes with a rectangular in the middle, on a blue background.

Sun Entrprises of late Stavros G Livanos - no relation to Ceres - had either a greek Λ or a latin L on the funnel.

Was Greek owner Ceres Livanos, they used the L in all funnel ships.

Thanks Rick, definitely early 70's. What company is the funnel marking ? Maybe Malcolm Cranfield could shed some light ? I am a Capetonian but I was still at school in the 70's....

Brett, as you can see from the data above, the vessel held this name between 1969 & 1974.
I was hoping that the Texaco VLCC in the background, which is one of the Howaldtserke-built Texaco Hamburg CLass VLCCs, might narrow the date down a bit, but it does not help as the three of the class also date from 1969.
