When, in 1982, the new PATRICIA was shown off to the shipping community in London, it was a time when light dues - the tax on shipping which funds navigation aids here - were rising steeply. The shipowners were outraged at at the opulence. That led directly to the gradual increase in application of proper business practices to this venerable arganisation and the growth of real cooperation with the sister organisations in Scotland and Dublin. The junketing is now much curtailed and at least part-financed from other TH funds, I think.
The discerning passengers love to see the crane playing with buoys, though I suppose the forward hold could garage a good fleet of jet-skis.
