Description:
D.K. Ludwig's Universe Tankships' 1958 Kure built 87425 dwt tanker UNIVERSE DEFIANCE is seen outbound from Rotterdam in ballast for the Persian Gulf on 9th July 1968.
She caught fire on 15.4.77 during a ballast voyage from Philadelphia to Cabinda and, following the loss of nine lives, was scuttled 200nm off Dakar on 7.5.77
