Basically - There's a green skip just outside the hole, so it's probably to make things easier for the ship breakers when they're gutting out the bridge and removing things like deck head panelling, insulation, flooring etc.

What's the purpose of cutting through into the middle of the bridge section ? Is it to remove instrumentation which may be salvaged/reused ?
