Thanks for these detailed replies, David and Hans. I'm a goof - with a little bit of thinking and research I should have come to the same conclusions... :-)

All the best
Jens

I suspect, Hans, that you have put your finger on at least one of the reasons they went out of Class.

Many thanks davidships for bringing some light and facts into this case, much appreciated !

Hello Jens, unfortunately I can't tell you the reason for this. Presumably both tugs have become obsolete or surplus for Kotug-Smit Towage and thus had to be sold. At least ZP Condon didn't make the trip from Hamburg to Gent under her own power, since she was towed there by Taucher O. Wulf 8 in March. So her engines were obviously not okay then and probably didn't run ever since. Anyway, it's a good thing these two elderly tugs will survive, at least it looks so at the moment.

Thanks for your comment, Jens, and many greets to Hamburg

Cheers, Hans

Looks as if they were out of class for international voyage. CONDON's out of ABS class 28/6 as surveys overdue (may have been already withdrawn by owners); CHALONE was withdrawn by owners from ABS class in February, even though expiry not until September, presumably on sale for demolition. New owners probably going to put them in RS Class, and easier for them to do that after arrival in Russia. That's just my guess, though. Maybe also only had sheltered/limited coastal certification.

Thanks for this interesting photo Hans, a tug towing a tug. Any idea why they did not sail to Russia under their own power?

(Will have to update my ship lists and bring them back from the dead) :-)

All the best
Jens
