Transliteration is always a problem. It is a pity, though, that the name of a significant Azeri politician and literary figure has to be changed. Nariman Narimanov (sic) has towns, streets, metro stations, and even a university named after him. As an aside, I would never consider Equasis to be an authoritative source.

Except that Equasis, RMRS class, registry and charter documents use the translation NERIMAN NERIMANOV - so that's how it should stay.

It is better to call it nAriman nArimanov, since the letter "ә" is read as a very soft "a", and not as "e". This is a specific letter of the Azerbaijani alphabet. I think that in the Turkish alphabet such a letter is also available.

Ok, thank you very much but that leaves the question open how to call the ship on an a site where English is the first language.

On board the name is written in the Azerbaijani language. English reads like nAriman nArimanov.

Askar, just for the record, and thanks for posting this ship, but the registers generally speak of nAriman nArimanov, would that be the correct translation for the Azeri character that is used for this ship?
