Description:
The wreck is still in Galatz, Romania.
Built in 1938 at "Burmeister & Wein" shipyard.
Sistership: "Basarabia" , taken by USSR (renamed Ukraina) after the 2nd world war.
Laid up after 1975 for 4 years in Constantza. Towed in 1979 to Galatz to be restored at local shipyard.
Capesized on 23.09.1979, due to negligence of Galatz harbour authorities. Similar end have general cargo "Slatina" (wreck still in Galatz) and tugs "Farul" and "Rovine".
After 23.09.1979, "Transilvania" was partially scrapped. Now, after 27 years, when the level of the Danube is lower, the wreck is looking like an island.
