Today 6th February 2019 the new third lock of the Prinses Beatrix Locks at Nieuwegein was officially openend by Princess (former Queen) Beatrix, in pooring rain. The new third lock is 25 m width and 297 m long, the first and second locks (built in 1938) were 18 m width and 225 m long. The inland tanker VLISSINGEN was one of the first vessels to transite the new lock after the opening ceremony: this vessel is 21.6 m width and therefore could not pass the two older locks so far.
