Pier 6 is the largest coal handling facility in the Northern Hemisphere. This facility handles all coal directly from the rail car and does not utilize open storage as most facilities do. It can handle 4 rail cars a time and up to 1200 a day. It can also blend different types of coal. It can load two ships simultaneously on it's 1850' long pier and is rated to ship up to 36 million tons of coal a year. Oh, and it is now over 50 years old.
