Description:

US Military Sealift Command Large Medium Speed Roll On Roll Off Ship tied up along the Elizabeth River in Norfolk VA.
She was built in 1980 as the container ship LEISE MAERSK and converted to her current status in 1997. She is maintained as part of the Atlantic Surge Force to ensure adequate sealift in the early stages of a crisis.
She a parking capacity of over 310,000 square feet and a crew of 28 civilians when not in service. Full crewing is 45 civilians with an additional 50 US Navy personnel. Her top speed in 24 knots.
She was named for US Army Vietnam War Recipient Sergeant First Class Rodney J. T. Yano.
