Description:
Derek/s pic of BRIGITTE at Ipswich was very interesting; this is her in original guise as ALBRIGHT PIONEER taken in Glasgow in 1987 after a routine drydocking.
As Derek said, she was originally built for Albright and Wilson as a phosphate carrier.
IMO Added 6815043 6,789grt Built 1968 as Chemical Carrier later used as phosphates carrier.

I believe this ship and her sister 'Albright Explorer' were actually built to carry liquid phosphorus [not phosphate].
If I recall my chemistry from more years ago than I care to remember, phosphorus ignites on contact with air - hence the special equipment on deck to handle this cargo.
In contrast, phosphate is a rock. Albright & Wilson also owned at least 3 smaller ships that carried phosphate rock from [if I recall correctly] Morocco to Whitehaven - the 'Marchon Enterprise' [blt 1962], 'Marchon Trader' [1957] and 'Marchon Venturer' [1962].

Thanks for posting this one, great to see her in her original form. I expect they took off the deck equipment before she was sold.
All the best
