Andreas, that is a traditional Maltese boat used to carry passengers called a "dghajsa", (pronounced dysa )it is said to have evolved from the venetian gondolas.It was propelled by an oarsman standing upright looking foreward with 2 oars, nowadays an outboard motor is used and they are mostly in use as round the harbour cruises for tourists.

Most probably taken in early 70s., photo taken from Barracca Gardens, Valletta. Cruising in those days was not as widespread as these days, not surely for the middle class.
Thanks for sharing this nostalgic photo with a 74 year old.
