Built by Smith's Dock Co., South Bank, Middlesborough, U.K.
Launched:27/4/1945 and completed:7/1945.
974 gt and 1,219 dwt. 68.4m oa and 11.2m beam.
1 triple expansion 3-cyl steam engine - 9.5 knots.
1945 - "EMPIRE PATTERN" - Ministry of War Transport, U.K. (Singapore Straits S.S. Co. Ltd., managers)
1948 - "FORCADOS" - Elder Dempster Ltd.; registered at Middlesborough. Operated as a "branch boat" on Elder Dempster's West Africa coastal services.
1962 - "BARBALIAS" - S. Leritos and I.D. Anghelatos, Piraeus, Greece.
1965 - "AGIA VARVARA" - G. Tzortzis and C. Sykias, Piraeus.
Some confusion over her end:
8/12/1966 - foundered off Cyprus on a voyage from Asdod (according to wrecksite.com) or
12/12/1966 - caught fire, capsized and sank off Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (according to Wikipaedia).
The photo above possibly dates from the period just prior to her sale from Elder Dempster.
