Description:

Chapman & Willan's NORTON, built by Short Bros. at Sunderland in 1959, is seen berthed at W Shed in Avonmouth's Royal Edward dock exactly fifty years ago today, on the afternoon of Sunday 19th April 1970. She was on charter to Ellerman Lines and photographed by the late Richard Parsons.

I had memorably just missed the ship passing Portishead on the morning tide, in part as she was expected to arrive on the evening tide.

NORTON, on her last voyage, was sold at Glasgow to Greek owners following completion of discharge of her cargo. Renamed CAPTAIN GERONTAS she finally arrived at Kaohsiung on 17th September 1979 for breaking
